Careers

Edith Kay School works with the Education Development Trust to ensure that our learners receive expert advice and support as they consider the next steps in their education and career path. The school’s EDT adviser is Selina Sparkles.

The school also offers weekly career support and uses a range of resources to ensure that every young person feels able to make an informed decision about their transition pathway.

The school uses a range of strategies such as:

  1. Capturing Key Information ahead of Transition using Assess, Plan, Do, Review in the lead up, during and after the Annual Review process.
  2. Social Stories to support learners to understand, prepare and plan for their next steps.
  3. Learner-Centred Planning.
  4. Navigating the LA local offer.
  5. Vocational Profiling Tools.
  6. Accessing Work: Inclusive Apprenticeships, Traineeships and Supported Internships.
  7. Examples of people who have completed supported internships and are now successfully in full-time work.
  8. Speakers throughout the year to support learners choices and regular updates sent out to families and carers in regard to careers offers.
  9. The National Apprenticeship Week runs each year in February, and the week highlights the impact of apprenticeships with this year’s theme focusing on “Skills for Life”.
